    Hey all

So was looking back on old threads , came across this ..

    http://touch.boards.ie/thread/2055900545/1

Its basically all about a noisy mains when tank in attic is filling .
People trying different ballcocks etc , even using plastic ones designed for cisterns which i think is stupid chancing using one of them..

So , my question is whats wrong with using a pressure reducing valve on the line just before the ballcock ?
Turn it down to say 1/2 bar or whatever and has a decent flow to keep the tank topped up but you would have silence or at least very little noise ..

27 euro and problem solved !?!?

    http://www.plumbingproducts.ie/pressure-reducing-valves-ireland/3290-pressure-reducing-valve-1-2.html

    Good , bad , opinions please ?

Ive never seen it mentioned and just wondered why any of the plumbers on here never have mentioned it from what i have seen anyway !!

I have done it and works perfect ..

    Cheers ..

You need to be careful not to slow down the filling of your tank too much. It could lead to filling not being able to keep up with usage and tank going empty, leading to airlocks.
However, if all the cheaper options fail, then it may be worth doing, keeping the above in mind.

    Hey mate
Yes you would have to be sure the filling capacity can keep up with usage ..
Could easily check by running hot and cold taps on the bath and adjusting the valve to suit until you find a happy medium .
The ones ive done are basically silent , its the best solution , done in one go rather than trying different methods and calling back the plumber , probably cost less in the long run rather than trying different type ballcocks ..

Anytime I have a problem with water noise or water hammer in an attic tank I just fit a FluidMaster with a brass tail and that solves the problem.
