Gents i've owned two of these Philips bad boys, however the 2nd one is now dying a death.

I'm looking for something that gives the closeness of a bear trimmer but with a bigger head, any recommendations?

All the barbers appear to use wahl products. They're not that expensive either.

If you want ones that go very close these are good.

OP, I'm a fan of those Phillips ones myself. Had 2 of the exact model pictured over the years. I now have the newer version of same. Going strong a couple of years now, no complaints.

Babyliss do good sets that aren't too expensive and last the course

Haven't cut my own hair in an age but still have a babyliss set since college that I'd have no problems firing back up

My recommendation is get one thats chargeable over a to the wall one as the cable will annoy you

I have yet to use a chargeable one that is as good as the plugged versions.

That Wahl one I use now I bought a 10 ft extension lead to run from bedroom to bathroom. And leave clippers in extension lead all the time.No hassle at all.

This is true, I don't think you'll get as good a cut as some of the others mentioned but cheap kit for a beginner

I owned that exact Philips and found them okay. The one thing I've learned about Philips is their rechargable batteries suck and lets down the entire product. When mine died I looked around on Amazon for the highest rated clippers and now would heartily recommend the Remington HC4250 Quick Cut Clipper:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Remington-HC4250-Quick-Cut-Clipper/dp/B012F8MS9A/ref=sr_1_6_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1467034268&sr=8-6&keywords=remington+hair+clippers

They are at least twice the width of regular clippers so it's more than twice as fast. Really makes a big difference speed-wise. I'd be pressed to waste 10 minutes. They look strange but are oddly comfortable. Have a look and check out the reviews.

Looks good but @1.5 mm.. i'd look ridiculous :P

Coming around to the Wahl ones but the cord option is stopping me, i may end up just getting a beard trimmer tbh

You won't be disappointed it's a fantastic clippers.I was apprehensive when buying it because of the cord but after a few days using it the cord isn't an issue get used to it very quick.

I use the Wahl Sterling 2 plus, my mates a barber and he uses them. I have it about 4 years now and beard trim every three days. I charge it every six months... Its a beast.

Just bought the wahl close cut on amazon for 25 sterling. I have a cordless babyliss for a few years now but the blade has gone dull and I couldn't get my hands on a new one. It doesn't give me as close a cut as I'd like and takes two passes to catch all the stragglers. Shame really as otherwise there is nothing wrong with it. But it's actually nice to see you can pick up the spares for the wahl stuff.
