Mk 5 golf bonnet stuck closed

    The latch for the bonnet on my golf has been on the way out for quite a while now, usually taking a good few slams to get it closed and grease/oil not helping.

    The last time i went to service the car the bonnet would not pop open at all when pulling the lever in the foot well.

    I had to remove the badge and had a poke around with a flat head and this allowed the bonnet to somehow open using the lever.

    Today my new latch arrived and had the same problem again when I went to open the bonnet, this time no amount of fiddling behind the badge could get the bonnet free.

    Has anyone had this issue before or know any tricks to get the bonnet free? Preferably with as little hassle as possible?
