Hi, would you know if you made an appointment with a kitchen designer at Cash and Carry Kitchen to do draw up plans for my new house will they give me a copy of the plans before putting down a deposit.

I have been told In-house Limerick(the panelling centre) won't give copy of plans until deposit is paid just want to check if Cash and Carry do as I have appointment with them on Thursday

    Thanks

In all fairness it wouldn't be unheard of for someone to get a kitchen drawn and then to take it to a competitor. Given it can take an hour or 2 to do up a set of plans , it hardly seems fair to expect them to do it for free.

Got a new kitchen last year, went to a number of kitchen companies, none of which gave us a copy of the kitchen plan without a sizeable deposit. They had no problem doing up the plans and showing it to us but not for us to take away.

It doesn't happen the same way you're expecting. Unfortunately!

Cash and carry will show you the plans on their computer, but that's it.

I highly recommend going to Ikea for kitchen design (not necessarily supply of the kitchen). We went to Ikea, got the kitchen designed how we wanted, and were able to take away the full itemised design. Meant we could log on, alter the design, do pretend walk throughs etc while at home. We also blew up some of the layouts to A3 making it easier to examine.

We were then able to bring the Ikea design to Cash and Carry, and in house and have them give us the design layout we wanted.

I wont lie, in the end we decided on Ikea, and are awaiting our last consultation to finalise and order.

Neither C&C nor In-House will give you a design you can walk away with.

Some places do let you take away the plans, most don't (including Cash & Carry).

I was actually quite disappointed with Cash & Carry's quote for us and the design was quite uninspiring. Went to Tierney Kitchens a few weeks ago who not only did a better design at a better price but also allowed us to take the design away with us (even bound it actually!). We'll probably show the design to a couple of smaller companies to see if any can do a significantly better price but if there was only a couple of hundred in it, I think I'd be inclined to stick with them based on reviews I've come across on-line of their work.

Obviously, I can't go as far as recommending them because they've not actually done any work for us yet, but so far, they've been the kitchen fitters that impressed us most.

We had a terrible time with Cash & Carry; chips in the wardrobe, the worktop fell off the wall the first time the washing machine was turned on, one cupboard door was badly designed so it wouldn't open and the handles fell off repeatedly. Their recommended electrician quoted more than double what others quoted. I wouldn't touch them with a ten foot barge pole.

Back on topic, we got an app visual to consider then we got the plans once we paid the deposit.
