Would you agree with a voluntary scheme of payment based on limiting milk supply to 2015 output?

No i don't agree we need to be looking forward not backwards. If this is the best we can come up with we are in a lot more trouble than I thought.

If the rest of the world unequivocally agreed to cut production also... I still don't think I'd agree to them.

If I can be guaranteed a fair price for this slavery

Speaking totally personally (and selfishly) I wouldn't mind this providing we got a fair price for our milk. Have reduced cow numbers by one third in last few years due to health issues and there was at least at improvement in lifestyle by 50%. Okay, I might not be able to afford new jeep/car etc but I don't want to work harded to achieve this.
Just a fair price and pay me not to do something I don't want to do.

It possibly should be an option. It would have to be voluntary. It might be good to have other countries in Europe agree to it. Just temporary mechanism to give the market a chance to pick up.
I would think farmers in other EU countries would take it up. Not so many in Ireland, but we would have been seen to have agreed to it. Would work out to our adv in the longer run.

I don't agree because it is likely to have unintended market-distorting effects. For better or worse, Ireland depends on a free global market in milk because our local market is so small for the moment.

Also, if such a measure was compulsory, I would have to pour milk down the drain indefinitely as I wasn't a supplier in 2015.

Non voluntary should not be considered or offered as an option.

I reckon if the price stays low the market will correct itself.

Yeah, but if this incentive was offered in the EU, we might not have France and others dumping extra milk into intervention.
We would probably not use the scheme very much but it could be to our advantage if they did.

I voted yes due to the word voluntary meaning it's up to each and every farmer if they want to participate .
Anything other than that is not voluntary then I would say no.

    +1
Let the market work, Eu are unlikely to interfere now, if supply drops 25% due to some scheme and the price goes up there's nothing to stop new entrants going into production and flooring the price again......processors seem to be able to sell all the milk they can lay their hands on
