Penneys don't have a sale, they just reduce certain items after so long in stock.

Not really, sales are usually on specific dates and are for a certain percentage off the price of most items.
Penneys reductions are not date specific and only include poor selling stock. I worked there for 6 years.

Funnily enough was in Heatons in the square yesterday and they had loads of Puma Suede runners half price from 50 to 25 and also had CAT work trousers for 30 down from 55.

There could be something in the OP.

Some smaller sportsworld departments are being rebranded as HSports and Sports Direct (owners of Heatons) are planning to open a substantial number of standalone stores and also rebrand some of the larger Sportsworld departments as Sports Direct.

So my guess is teh smaller ones will ahve a "closing down" sale. Closed for a few days and then opened rebranded as HSports

I was in the Portlaoise store the other day, the signs say "upto 80% stock clearance" and its in both heatons and sports world.

Sports direct and sports world are the one company just a different trading name, and soon to be the same trading name, sports direct has generally been cheaper over the years but the quality of some of products isn't up to scratch, Nike polo t shirts for example from either are of inferior quality to the Nike store
The rrp is always inflated to enable "up to 80%" sales
Bargains can be found like the Levi 501's I picked up in heatons for €18 but the rrp on these was €125 which is crazy

They are now - up til last March Sports Direct only controlled 50% of Heatons / Sportsworld.

The Sportworld name is set to disappear and as per post above, the smaller sports departments will be rebranded HSports (already done in Waterford) and the larger ones will be rebranded Sports Direct. Some Heaton stores will be fully rebranded as Sports Direct - The Park in Carrickmines is one being considered for a full rebrand.
