Hello everyone, im 20 yrs old, DA got cut.I'm totally and utterly penniless (literally not a cent)starving and in a very bad situation health wise with blood clots among other lengthy health issues, no medical card or any form of health insurance or any medication to control my problems. Will be homeless at the end of the month cannot afford rent, cannot get rent allowance. Homeless shelters are absolutely terrfiying for a female my age, i have had awful experiences in one. friends or family to ask for help or rely on absolutely none. I've already asked SVDP for help in the past after i lost my job of 4 years after becoming seriously ill. They've helped me so much and they said they can't keep doing it ive already asked twice recently and too many to count before that. I'm on internet only because my landlord has a Wi-Fi box out here. I haven't eaten i am thirsty unwell and have no where to turn or anywhere to go :( ... please someone can you give me advice thank you so much

Have you contacted your community welfare officer?

Yes, and she was less than helpful. She basically just said well when you become homeless you'll be put on a waiting list for a house and that the waiting list is 5yrs + I cried after my visit to her.

    Hi OP,

Sorry to hear about your situation. I've moved your thread from the Long Term Illness forum to State Benefits as you may get more relevant advice here.

If you are in such a bad situation healthwise can you present at A&E and be admitted?

I'm truly terrified for this country! Apologies op but I've no advice. I wish you the very best of luck

I could and i have before, all I end up with is a huge bill I'm already in so much debt because of health care bills, and I can't even pick up the prescriptions they give me because I've literally no money.

I'd suggest you go back to the CEO and ask for supplementary welfare now your disability allowance is cut.

You could also apply for illness benefit.

Why was your da cut off?

Did you have a medical card since losing your job and if so when did it expire.

You are only liable for 10 nights stay at 75 euro per night in any one 365 day period. So the max you can be charged in a year is 750 euro (which is no small amount, but if youve already had 10 nights in, then you wouldnt be charged again).

It sounds to me like you need a social worker.

Have you tried contacting local TDs etc?

Did you not post a thread seven months ago that you were applying for da? It's a bit confusing if you've been on it two years.

Go to your TD, and any hospital bills incurred within the 6 months after your medical card expired should be written off.

Yes I was sent a letter out for a review, And I'd gotten depressed and bad anxiety since the last time I had applied and wondered if that would make me eligable

Op you need to find the strength to deal with this immediately.

Why didn't you reapply for a medical card before it ran out when you know you need it?

Getting to an appointment to make sure you keep your money should be your number one priority, its not their problem how you get there and they hear excuses all the time.

I'm sorry if it seems harsh but only you can sort this out, you need to get up and go to the sw office and arrange for an emergency payment while you appeal to DA or make a new application. Bring a letter from your doctor explaining your health situation and notice from your landlord.

BTW how are you being made homeless already? Were you already in arrears before your DA got stopped?

Sorry Roisin but what happened to the Disability Allowance that you were only awarded on June 1st? Today is only June 27th? What could have happened so quickly after your being awarded that you were cut off?

She appears to have missed an appointment with a medical deciding officer?

If she was awarded DA on June 1st ( 3 weeks ago) then she didn't have an appointment with a deciding officer after that.
The desicion had already been made.

I think wokingvoter is referring to this post where the OP stated that they were awarded DA in May with payment to commence in the first week in June. But the OP was called for an appointment which she did not attend and has claimed to have now lost her DA and this all happened within a few weeks of it being awarded.

All a bit strange I have to say.

this does all seem a bit strange, we re obviously missing some info but id be very grateful if people treated this situation with a bit of sensitivity as its a complex situation. apologies for backseat modding, thank you

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,077 ✭✭✭percy212

You can ignore the hospital bills. They won't chase you for them. Just say you have no income and you are homeless, which appears to be the case.

Go to your A and E as suggested above, or go to the local psychiatric hospital requesting treatment. Once in the hospital request a social worker.

I'm not being insensitive. I can and will help this poster with good advice, but the sequence of events in her different threads doesn't make any sense.
If there's something, some piece of information we're missing ( which there must be ) then it could make all the difference to the advice she gets.

Yeah, she said she is sick and almost homeless. She has no income. That's a person who is very at risk. Lets assume what she says is true. You might be saving a life for all you know.

The issue with the ops posts from her history is that they are literally contradictory one says black, another says white.

It's difficult to give advice in that situation

7 months ago she said she was on jsa and had just applied for DA now in this thread she's had it for 2 years. In that same thread she said she was working until recently.
In another thread she stated she was awarded it on 1st June this year.

It's impossible to give advice without knowing the truth, no one will give out to the op but if she wants help she needs to be honest and the helpful people here will advise her.

Yes we could give advice that would save her life but in order to do that we first need to establish her exact current circumstances
We have nothing else to go on but her posting history and to anyone familiar with the process of applying for Disabilty Allowance this posters history isn't logical, doesn't make any sense and requires further explanation

Okay, I'll take photos that the department sent me proving all this and put it on the 'attach files' option it gives on the site which I presume means you can attach photographs... Sorry for upsetting any one.

First of all do not post up any files that contain personal info that can identify you. In fact dont post anything along those lines as its not necessary.

In any event you wont be able to upload any images here as you dont have enough posts. But as I said its not necessary anyhow.

RoisinDee, It might be good to contact your local health centre and they will be able to help you untangle this. You probably know the phone number/address but in case not, you can find it through this http://www.hse.ie/eng/services/list/1/LHO/
Your local Citizens Information http://centres.citizensinformation.ie/ may be able to help also and assign someone to make calls and get it sorted. In the meantime, keep up contact with the St. V de Paul. I understand that you got help from there in the past but they won't leave you short of food etc.

Did you get fired for being certified sick ? While this isn't a short term fix you could look for advice from http://www.flac.ie/help/centres/ as you may have a strong case against your former employer

She could have been on illness benefit before being moved to DA. That's what happened me. I was on illness benefit for 2 years, and then moved to DA after my DA application was accepted.

What happened in the working week since you posted? Is this all sorted out?

There's no need to go to the lengths in your post but to clarify what the situation actually is would be good, no one will mind if you've gotten confused but do remember people have taken time from their lives to help you which isn't easy when you're giving conflicting information.

There may be a primary care social worker for your area. Ask at your local health centre. They would be able to help you negotiate your way around the social welfare and homelessness system. Also you should call into your local citizen's information centre as they would be able to help you appeal the decision regarding your disability allowance.

Roisin you dont have to prove anything, you came on here looking for advice not to convince anyone or deal with negativity and nit-picking which boards.ie is unfortunatly full of. This country is a disgrace and treats people with difficulties like theyre worthless, only adding more stress and anxiety. I'm so sorry youre having to deal with this. It's an awful situation for anyone to be in, especially someone so young.

Go to your Intreo office and ask for a case worker or someone to speak to, they're usually much more polite and understanding and have more people skills than the yokes in social welfare. I would also contact a local homeless charity as they are very good with helping people find emergency accommodation, they can also give you food and support. You should be entitled to a medical card, reapply for that as soon as you can. It may be difficult as you'll no longer have a permanent address to where they can send the card, perhaps speak to your landlord about holding onto your post or ask in your local HSE healthcare where you get the form from if you can have the card delivered to there. You can also get an emergency payment.

What people on this thread dont seem to realise is that you dont get a full payment until youre 25 regardless of your situation so I imagine youre trying to get by on 100 euro a week, they will cut your payments for little or nothing, and they dont care about what situation youre in. They are a shower of you know what, on a power trip, no understanding or sensitivity. Its difficult for them to understand that people live in poverty and its not by choice. I know how difficult people can be especially when all you need is a bit of support. Keep going and please keep the thread updated on your situation. X

Airyfairy the OP applied for DA not JSA
DA is paid at 188 per week to people aged 16+.
You need to go back and actually read the thread.
