The road near Moate

Anyone driven from Athlone to Moate lately on the old road will have driven along a stretch that's been "re-surfaced". Tis there from the motorway junction up to the flyover, and I'll be honest, it's a shocking effort by whoever did the job, and worse by whoever signed off on it.

Coming up it looks lovely and smooth, but jaysus, tis as bumpy as a teenagers face and the noise off it is shocking.

Anyone know what the dealio is with it? Or why was it left in such a state?

Yeah, feels like there's a layer missing. I thought I had a flat wheel the first time I drove on it.
