I'm flying from terminal 1. US pre clearance is in terminal 2.

After security, do i make my way to terminal 2 for US preclearance.

But, do they allow you to go back for you flight in terminal 1.

Or do i do customs and immigration in the US?

All direct flights to the US use terminal 2. You can only use pre-clearance when flying direct to the US. It sounds like you are transiting through another country, so you will have to clear immigration and customs on landing in the US

I'm flying with Ethiopian Airlines direct to the US from Dublin. I checked the departures for tomorrow and the same flight leaves tomorrow from terminal 1.

I'm just confused how it's going to go. Do i do the preclearance and is there a way to go to terminal 1 afterwards. Once you leave pre clearance, i thought all the flights leave from the same area, so there might not be a way to get into terminal 1.

I'm guessing i have to do the customs and immigration in the US.

Actually the OP is correct - they leave via T1. Ethiopian Airlines transits through Dublin (stop off from Addis abba) and is not point to point. Therefore you cannot avail of pre-clearance as the plane already has passengers who started in Addis. When you arrive in New York you will go through Immigration like any other International flight.

Thanks for confirming what I thought. Does this mean that my bag won't go through to my final destination and i have to pick it up and re-check it?

You will have to pick it up, bring it through customs and drop it on a baggage belt.
