I am buying a Toyota hatch & i wish to remove the rear & front passenger seat to increase it's load capacity. Do I have to have the seats in place for an nct ? Does removing the seats affect perceived road worthiness ?

Dont know about the front but you do not need to have rear seats, I put my car through with out rear seats as the seatbelts were missing from the back and it just gets an advisory.

you may get it past the NCT, you won't get it past your Insurance Company though. It's not a freight vehicle.

Are you saying I can't take out a seats from my car if I want to carry something bigger, as my insurer doesn't allow that?

Will it be classed as a modification?
You will have seat belts still in place but can't be tested due to no seat?
Also by disconnecting the passenger seat will you now have an airbag light on the dash which is a fail.

I think it would be a fail as they can't check the condition of the seats and the logbook will say it has 4/5 seats so all would need to be checked? I know if you don't have the spare wheel present it will pass but a logbook won't list the car as having a spare wheel.

Someone on here a couple of weeks ago failed because his drivers seat had a rip in it, see here...

yes I'm saying that . You'd need to tell your insurance of a modification and they'd probably remove your cover as they'd suspect the car was being used for business purposes.

It's a modification, IC must be informed.

NCT Manual Page 19, the check is for seats which are present, no mention of any that are missing...

    That's easily taken care of.

It should reduce the premium as the vehicle can only contain one person that can be injured in an accident.

It could still crash into a 53 seater coach!
