    Hi all,

Possibly (or definitely :pac:) a rather stupid question, but I am about to purchase a new Saorview ready TV.

I have never had Saorview before, but did have an aerial installed on the property years and years ago which used to allow me to pick up BBC, ITV etc before they went digital, via an antenna in cable that ran down through the wall.

Is it possible for me to plug this connection from the aerial to the antenna in connection on the Saorview ready TV in order to receive Saorview, or is there a different aeriel/setup I would need? I have explained it poorly but the picture below ripped from Google might explain it better in relation to what I mean:

    Many thanks.

Yes you should be fine with the old aeriel, there's no thing as a digital specific one.

Only problem may be that the aerial is directed to transmitter that broadcasts signals for Freeview channels and not directed at one which broadcasts signals for Saorview. However if you are in an area with a strong Saorview signal it may not matter.

Use the Saorview coverage checker to see which transmitter is recommended for your location - https://www.saorview.ie/en/get/coverage

The Saorview TV may be able to receive the Freeview channels also as you had the analogue ones previously.

roughly what location is the OP ??

It may have been the case that the analogue BBC and ITV were via a now defunct 'deflector' rather than a direct UK reception?

    Thanks for the replies all.

I purchased the new TV today, connected the antenna and Saorview is working perfectly. No luck with the UK Freeview but that just would have been a bonus more than anything.

Everyone in my house will now be delighted that I can be relegated upstairs to watch the Euros :pac:

The previous post to yours speculated you may have been receiving the UK analogue channels from a local deflector relaying the signal from a NI transmitter, if so these deflectors were switched off around analogue switchoff and didn't carry the Freeview channels.

Thanks for your reply. I believe that was the case. I know we are getting onto another subject now, but is there a way to receive the UK Freeview channels via a box or something now?

Where are you located approx., as you were receiving the UK channels via a deflector I assume you're not within range of a Freeview transmitter in NI or Wales.

In that case a Freesat satellite receiver and dish will be your best option, e.g. the Manhattan Plaza Freesat HD receiver is the cheapest around.
