    Hello,

    A quick one here.

As a fully registered FE teacher, can I legally accept a post primary teaching position?

I applied where the application did not specifically state what sector it was in, but given the subject area it seemed like further education.

I applied and called to interview. During it, it was stated that I would be teaching a class of 14 year olds.

After looking into it further, by checking with friends who are staff who would have received a circular about it, the memorandum was there and it stated that it was post primary.

I could not understand how I was called to interview and certainly, I can not understand how I got the job as I was always told the reason for the introduction of the FE teacher registration with the teaching council (who could not have been less helpful to me) and FE teaching courses/qualifications is to ensure that FE teachers teach in FE, secondary in secondary etc.

I am not too keen on teaching people of that age group, but I am more curious about the legality of it all.

    Thanks!

There are some educational settings which under the etb, fall under further education, such as youtheach, and other units similar to yothreach which work with young teenagers. As they fall under further education, I would imagine you would be legally entitled to work in such settings.
