Are they branching out to towns? Spotted 2 vm vans pulling orange cable into a manhole in castlepark estate today, is VM cable coming to Mallow or is it for something else?

They're doing the same here in Enniscorthy. They've put up fancy looking green cabinets too. One of the cabinets is right beside the the two eircom cabinets. Finally a bit of investment into an archaic 40 year old system. I'll try and get a picture of one of these cabinets.

A crowd called Lawless civil engineering (LCE) are doing the civils and their standard of work is top class. The trench is cut,dug and closed with proper tar you'd never know a trench had been cut at all.

Nice to see Virgin Media making up for the mistakes made by their predecessors.

Wonder if they'll ever cable Kerry. Horizon back in the day thought that instead of cabling Tralee & Killarney that a MMDS site on the Sliabh Mish mountains & just off the Mill Rd in Killarney would be enough. Not in 2016.

What predecessors? Virgin is just a rebrand of UPC. Virgin Media Ireland is owned by Liberty Global International, the largest cable company in the world, who also owned UPC Ireland for the past 12 years or so. Same people, just new name!

Having said that, MMDS was largely installed by Chorus over 12 years ago, before UPC took it over. UPC has been largely focusing on upgrading the cable network to high quality HFC to support high broadband speeds and HD TV. They just continued to run the MMDS network as a legacy network, without investing much in it.

Now that they seem to have come close to finish upgrading most of the cable networks, it looks like they are starting to expand again into non cabled areas. Great news.

Hopefully, they start expanding their network aggressively. This combined with NBP and SIRO/Eir FTTH rollout should hopefully mean the vast majority are able to get 1Gb+ speeds in a few years.

Whatever happened with this? Virgin never did roll out in Mallow AFAIK.
