    Hi
    I wonder can anyone advise re parental leave and what it means for pension / other contributions?

    I am due to take 2 weeks per month over the next 3 months - would my (current) monthly salary be effectively just halved?

    You are not entitled to pay from your employer while you are on parental leave nor are you entitled to any social welfare payment equivalent to Maternity Benefit or Adoptive Benefit. So you will only be entitled be paid for the days you are at work each month.

    Parental leave is no different from any other type of unpaid leave.

    Before tax, your monthly salary is effectively just halved.

    After tax, no - unless your annual salary is below about 15k. You will be taxed as though you are going to earn the reduced monthly amount for the rest of the year. (Caveat: this can vary though if are married and joint assessed, and some of your tax credits are assigned to your spouse.)

    How your PRSI credits are treated depends on how your company's payroll system is set to do the parental leave. (I suspect that technically it shouldn't - but I know of some cases where I've had a "stamps" paid for me even though I was on unpaid leave.)

    As to pension and any other employment benefits are treated - that depends on your employment contract. We cannot tell you.
