Is anybody else fed-up with "gender neutral"?

In the last year or so it seems to have become all the rage. We now have a never-ending stream of headlines about schools and businesses introducing "gender neutral" toilets and so on. Other similar reports about those applying for bank loans, university places etc are being 'discriminated' against when they're compelled to tick a box for male/female.

In my opinion there are some parallels between gender-neutral pandering for the masses and the sticking of 'lactose -' or 'gluten free' labels on food products. I'm fully aware that a certain small minority of people simply cannot digest these sugars and proteins without becoming ill, thus it is to be welcomed for those. For the outstanding majority of us who don't have this condition and/or 'self-diagnose', such foods may not, on balance, be actually any healthier for us. Much the same as those taking actual operations/hormone treatments to change sex are in extreme minority, I question why schools feel compelled to introduce such toilet facilities?

There is and will always be just two sexes, when one examines the biology. 'XX' and 'XY' chromosomes in our cells and their combinations are what govern this.

I appreciate that women now have a greater role outside the home and now can earn as much as or even more than men in the same professional role. I also agree that 'gender stereotypes' do need to challenged in a modern society, but I fail to see how letting individuals have both or neither (or whatever combination between the two) genders represents progress.

    Any thoughts?

I'm not joking when I say that I cannot think of literally one way it affects my life.

Or, we could let people be what they want as long as they're not harming anyone. Surely it doesn't harm anyone to have standard toilets ? Irish people are very hung up on toilets and who goes where, I just what to see clean toilets, if they were clean is share them with anyone.

When they have male, female and disabled toilets for all who need them they can then move on to the fancy dan stuff.

We call it non-binary now  It means you can identify as whatever you want, up to an including household appliances and people have to take you seriously. Congrats on being a bigot.

    I'm a tri-sexual toaster this week. Where's my toilet?

If you are lactose intolerant or gluten intolerant, then yes, it's a blessing. And actually, the faddiness of them both means that there is now a much greater selection of lactose and gluten-free stuff in the supermarkets. I am lactose-intolerant and always have been, and am testing the gluten issue at the moment as it is an issue with my family. So quite frankly, I'm happy enough if it gives me more of a range of options and you chaps that aren't lactose or gluten-intolerant can just happily avoid that (rather annoyingly expensive) part of the supermarket. I doubt if its mere existence is physically harming you as you walk in the door.

Same way, those who are transexual or transgender can use the gender neutral toilets if they wish and everyone else can just use far and mna as they always have. In a similar way, I doubt if the mere presence of a neutral loos is causing you any real harm and helps a small sector of people, much as the lactose and gluten-free stuff helps another.

So, in short, why do you even care?

Edit: To the tired, worn-out "I am a giraffe" jokes...god, get some new material already. It's pretty much exactly the same crap as "If gays can marry, what's the next step? MARRYING A DOG?!". I really don't know if "gender-fluid" and "gender-neutral" are things, not being a psychologist myself, but isn't it easier to just ignore it rather than be an arse over something that, sorry, but I doubt most of you understand entirely either.

Or at least get a joke that wasn't only mildly funny the first ten or fifteen times and after the 16,492nd time, is just flat.

It's not so much the amazing choice of toilet facilities that bothers me, but rather the direction it seems to be sending society into.

Does everything have to become so arbitrarilily 'equal' and thus homogenous?

Yep, discrimination keeps things so interesting, don't you agree? It's all the shades of colour in life - and it's so much more fun when we can decide that one is better than another and have a good little pecking order to keep the weird ones in line.

Basically, there's more important things in life. So let's just live and let live on the minor stuff that people can't help, and get on with living our own lives. I'm sure we can make them far more interesting than squabbling over toilets. Unless you have a particular pash for loos, I guess.

    Mod:

You are sick of the term, yet you start a thread about it to get people talking. That's just plain silly.

There have been too many LGBT threads popping up recently and there really is no need for this one.
