    Indo reports here that:
    - IT will cease publication of its UK edition.
    - IT will lease 2 floors in their Tara Street HQ.
    - Hiring freeze.
    - Job cuts all voluntary.
    - Focus on digital content.

    The cuts continue.

I've always wondered how the circulation figures for the UK editions of any of the papers add up to enough - the Independent still has its one but more recently I've noticed the (ROI) Sunday World is for sale in England too.

it looks like a paper that will die a death. How much debt do they have? didn't they go a bit mad last decade?

I think if they are to survive they need premium high-quality content and a crowd of loyal paying readers.

Focusing on online content is fine, but they won't beat thejournal.ie at being thejournal.ie.

the journal lol . give it 10 years and I just see small groups of journalists getting together and doing a mixture of writing, and video interviews. The idea of reading a large paper from cover to cover is so outdated.

If memory serves correct 50m for myhome.ie.

I'll be pedantic here to help the Indo subs: WTF is the UK edition. Would that {excuse me as a nationalist} the NI edition?
    I dont think so

Seems small beer really the 3m, but it shows that behind the curtains, things are imploding. Circulating must be tanking and digital Ad revenue gains are not keeping pace with the loss from print

Paper editions will keep shrinking and possibly disappear, but I don't think the format of having a daily, weekly, or monthly coherant snapshot of current affairs will (as opposed to a constant flow of content online). And there will always be people willing to pay for that coherent view of the world as long as it is premium and good quality contant.

The Economist is demonstrating this very well with their digital edition (whether people like the editorial line is another story, but the daily/weekly content is easily available from many devices and provides in-depth analysis which doesn't require instant publishing and can be distributed as a weekly package which makes sense as a whole).

I think people want more depth on the things they are interested in , so yeah The Economist is a good example. I havnt bought a newspaper in over 10 years, my kids have never seen a newspaper , they barely watch TV btw (watchout networks)

It might go like free to play video games or Youtube channels. 10% pay a subscription because they like or for bells and whistles and the rest watch for free.

No, there is a GB edition, printed in England and available in certain newsagents there. It's mostly black and white and seems to be thinner than the normal edition although I can't remember exactly what is missing.

Afaik NI gets the same edition as the Republic.
