Whirlpool Fridge Freezer - Possible Issue. HELP!!

I recently moved into a new apartment and seem to be having some trouble with the fridge freezer. I don't have the model number but it's a Whirlpool with a temperate dial setting of 0-7. I've noticed that I'm throwing out a lot of food well before the best before date. It's going off very easily and at least twice a week there is quite a pungent smell coming from the fridge. It seems to be a mix as well, chicken has gone off after a day, chickpeas after two (and in a sealed tuberware container). I currently have the setting to 5. It's confusing because the walls are cold to touch and so far, I've had no problems with milk going stale. The freezer is also fine.

Could this be an issue with the temperature setting or possibly an issue with the fridge? I don't want to contact the landlord till I've tried everything.

    Very frustrating

The most likely problem with it is that it has leaked some of `the` refrigerant gas, if your finger when wet doesn't stick to the back wall of the fridge when running then its down in gas for sure and not repairable unless the leak location can be found
