NCT query

    Hi all.
I had my car in for its nct a couple of weeks ago. It failed on only 3 minor things one being the break pipe on the drivers side rear. So the guy gave me the print out of faults and scribbled out drivers side rear and wrote in passenger side rear. Good enough, I headed off and got my few things done and booked for a retest.
The day of my retest came and I went to the local nct centre, it failed on the break pipe drivers side rear? When I quarried the issue he told me to bring in the original print out (which was at home) and he would run it again. After a couple of hours of getting the print out from home and waiting around it was put on the machine and it passed the test?
So the original print out said drivers side rear break pipe needed to be fixed and the retest said drivers side rear break pipe needed to be fixed and even though I never got it fixed it still passed? They tried to charge me for a retest when I know, and they know, that they made a mistake and it was really obvious. He also told me to maybe paint the pipe because it is a little corroded but it was 100% for the next year (till the next test) but also if i wanted to get it changed that would be a good idea.
What do the good people of the boards think? Can i take this further? Should i take it further or Should i let it go?

I'm lost. You were told to fix brake pipe you didn't and it passed?
You then got previous sheet to show it had failed

    What do you want????

OK Sorry for the wording of it. i'll try summarizing it.
I got a fail on corrosion of the "offsiderear" brake pipe and guy 1 crossed it out with a pen and wrote in "nearsiderear" so i got it fixed. On the retest (guy 2) failed it again on "offsiderear" but when i queried it they basically rewrote it for a pass even though he showed me where the pipe "offsiderear" was damaged.
I thought it was a little dodgy is all. Trying to get an extra retest and also if that brake pipe fails say in 3 or 6 months time will the NCT centre be accountable.

Actually au'contraire. The guy did not want to see you again nor you paying again, so passed the car - but tell you to have it fixed anyway. What else do you want?!

And no - they are not accountable for failures. NCT certificate does not guarantee that the car will be roadworthy for 12 months...

Nct is just a test on condition at time of inspection it does not cover if say you drive out hit a kerb or pot hole knocking lights out of focus and messing up suspension or tyres or even damage to parts under the car

I know. But i was showed where the problem was and was told to get it fixed because the breaks will fail if not. When i showed him the original test sheet he basically said forget everything i just said!!!

Sometimes there can be rust light corrosion as they aren't able to poke around they must advise or in worst case fail
You could be lucky with a clean with a steel brush run over affected area.

So mine was "Worst case" as he failed me on it twice but then turned around and said it was fine??? Definitely dodgy in my book.

I think they are erring on the extreme side of caution with brake lines these days. We had a car fail on rear line corrosion recently. When we took it out we found that it was a copper pipe and just dirty. Rub of Brasso and voila... new cert.

I assume that when you showed him the altered fail sheet he realised he had re-tested the wrong side, thought the other side was OK (or thought it had been done) and passed it. It passed, why worry. Get a mechanic to check the brakes are Ok and drive on.
