    Hi,

my husband and I just bought a 98 Toyota corolla and are having trouble getting an insurance quote. I'm a learner driver (age 49) and my husband (age 54) has a full Irish license but has never owned a car and only moved from the UK to Ireland in 2014. We have tried quite a few insurance companies and have had no luck at all, any help would be gratefully received,

    thanks in advance

    Have you tried local brokers???

The main advice given here is if they all say no you can visit financial/insurance ombudsman who will advise you further, most likely end up with astronomical quote which you will have to take or leave.

It's an unfortunate minefield created by years of lax management with all involved with insurance/claims etc

Start ringing around the various insurance brokers and let them do some leg work for you.

On a side note OP for next time, the way insurance is gone in this country it is advisable in future to check out insurance costs first before buying the car so that you don't end up with a car you cannot insure.

Strange thought I just had would 'classic car insurance' cover your needs.

I not looked at policy requirements for classic cars and what your allowed to do in Ireland.

My mother is having a similar problem, she has a 99, but she has a full licence and has for almost 20 years, and she let her insurance lapse, and now she's having a huge problem finding companies to cover her that won't cost an absolute fortune (even though it will anyway, as is the nature of insurance)

Your need a daily driver for classic insurance and they are picky with what they'll give classic insurance on.
