I need some info on where to get information on public liability insurance or if it would be needed for a very small business?
My wife just started making crafts and homemade jewellery, decoupage wooden trinkets etc and wants to start selling at stall's.
A local area is having a fair in a month where there will be stall's and the secretary told her, she would need public liability insurance.
so advice is appreciated where we go from here!! Thanks

Most insurance companies will offer a suitable product some even have specialist products for markets. Just give a few a ring or you might even be able to get it via chill etc.

Its not too expensive should be around €200 for the year not sure what it would be like for a one off event if that's the plan.

Go to a broker they will tailor a policy to suit your business

For what I do I was quoted around €600pa from every broker I went to, MAST (for exactly the same cover and liabilities) were €330pa

A market stall should not cost more than €200 approx for PL cover. And thats an annual policy.

We were paying ~€400 for a 2000sqft shop that seems very high for a market. We got a quote for £2m coverage recently for £140 for a trade show.

Only a broker could answer that concisely

When you guys say "broker" is that the same as an insurance company (e.g. Chill, etc)? I rang Chill - they don't seem to do PLI.

Brokers are not insurers – a broker approaches several insurance companies to obtain quotes for your risk, and uses its skill to advise you of the best option and then places the risk with your choice. Chill is a broker, not an insurer.
Some brokerages have developed into online comparison sites and specialise in plain/simple products only and leave the ‘complicated stuff’ to specialists. Those specialists often have minimum premium requirements and won’t deal with the small stuff.
Other sites e.g. 123.ie are insurers trading under a different name (123.ie = RSA)
