hi,i have an primare i 21 amp and recently added an external power amp rated at 110 watt instead of the primares 70watts...the thing is that when the primare was connected on it own 12 on the volume was quite high volume but connected to the power amp through the pre outs i need to give it into the forties for the same volume.

now i understand that the difference between 70 watts and 110 watts is minimal but i was not expecting those results.

are the pre outs on a integrated amp not great?

It will depend on the input sensitivity of the power amp. The specs for the Primare quote 330 mV on the Tape Output. The Line Out is dependent on the position of the volume control. These are probably not going to drive a power amp to it's limit, some require up to 2V in for full output.

What make/model is the Power amp ?

That's the most important question... the Primare i 21 is a very good amp and adding just any old power amp will probably degrade the sound anyway. The power amp would need to be at least the same quality as the Primare i 21
