Laptop not connecting to UPC wifi

    Hi,

Don't know if anyone can help me with this. Have already followed various instructions on 2012 thread - to no avail.

Basically, can only get a Local internet connection on my laptop (Acer Aspire 5315 with Vista Basic OS) using my UPC wifi set up, though no problem when I use network cable directly (unfortunately can't use this normally because modem attached by short cable to UPC socket, so can't be moved more than metre away). UPC wifi works fine enough with netbook, and I also have no problems connecting laptop to internet using my smartphone as a modem with my mobile provider!

So far have done all usual things like switching off & restarting UPC modem, going to a better wifi channel, trying to use WEP security instead of WPA2 (UPC connection won't allow it) and manually adding UPC connection to wireless networks, but nothing works!

If anyone has any other ideas about what else I could try, please let me know! All ideas gratefully received!

    Alex

    1. Its a pile of junk, do you really want to use it?

    2. On older chips its usually a buggy first release driver or Vistas WPA bug. Refer to 1. for how much effort you put into fixing it.

You could buy a USB wireless adapter for about a tenner.

What do you mean by Local Internet connection?
