Hi , I have to take my sisters dog soon as she is currently living in a tiny box flat with no room for her dog , been with her a few years gentle little terrier mix , the thing is this dog is obsessed with my sister follows her everywhere , it's only until she finds a bigger place

Anyways what do I do if the dog follows me everywhere once I start minding her I mean do I leave her tied up outside while I go into my local shopping centre ? As i know if I don't tie her up she 'll literally follow me into every shop and I don't think the security will like that as she is already banned from most shops in town

Leave her in your house? DO NOT leave any dog tied up outside this is how lots of dogs get robbed / lost every day. Even if left for 5 mins lots of dogs are being stolen for dog fight baiting etc... i may sound dramatic but believe me im not.

Please be sensible please leave her in your kitchen in her bed where she is safe, she will adapt over time all dogs do with some help.

Oh ok I just kinda wanted to take her for walks with us too , I was gonna get a leash that I could use with a little lock so she would be safe and secure but thanks I 'll do that instead and leave her settle

Walk her separately from the shop or chores run. Try to do it at the same time every morning, she will soon realise that that's her walk time and then she will be left alone while you do your own thing.

Is she small enough to tuck into the front of your jacket with her head poking out? That's what I do with my brother's (very small) Cavalier, as I wouldn't leave a dog tied up outside a shop either.

Oh no no she's not that small she would never fit

May I ask if your sister has a crate for her? if she follows her around like that she 'could' have a little bit of separation anxiety, so it's handy if she has a safe place to relax when you're out.
