Any scope for casual Labour

    Hi,

    Just wondering is there any scope to be able to pay someone on a casual basis.

    Example in point is having the old lady from across the road come into the office for 2 hours every second week to tidy up. I don't exactly want to go PAYE with it but don't want to be handing her cash from my pocket either.

    Similarly, someone lets you down and you grab Joe Soap from the street to do a single days laboring for you, as a once off. Is there any way this can be done?

    Sub contractor, they produce an invoice for the works provided and they take care of their own taxation

    from an employment law point of view be careful with what what your getting in to with "casual" labour. Your idea of it may be a few hours now and again and theirs maybe cash in hand no taxes paid plus if you kept them on long enough and regular enough they could eventually be entitled to rights as an employee

    if you are not exceeding €38 a week the employer's PRSI is only 0.5% if the little old lady is over 66 even if you exceed €38 it is still 0.5% if she is over 70 there is no Employers PRSI. It is much cheaper and easier imo to do the right thing.

    Hire them thru an employment agency, who invoice you for the service provided.

    The agency deal with the employment stuff, you just see them as another supplier.
