It depends; what are your needs? Do you have children? (so think about schools), where do you work (will you have to commute?), do you need banks/supermarkets/co-ops to hand? Would you prefer to live in the country for the peace and quiet? Give us a little more information on you circumstances ....

    +1 for Callan though :)

Depends on your own personal circumstances but places like Danesfort or Bennetsbridge are very nice villages that are only a very short commute in to KK city and have very quick and easy access to M9 motorway if commuting to work in any route directly located near the M9. Thomastown in my opinion would be a nicer place to live than Callan but lack of secondary school options could be an issue down the line if you have Kids and choose not to send them to the local Grennan College secondary school

Both retired, no kids so schools not an issue. We would like a good transport link to Kilkenny City though.

    Thomastown.

It's perfect if you don't need to communte to KK daily, you have pubs, shops, supermarkets etc and you have the train going through there as well so there's you transport link.

    And it's a nice town.

Callan has two banks, post office, credit union, two supermarkets, (Supervalue & Aldi) etc
Bus service is very good with both Bus Eireann & Kavanaghs passing through the down on the main Clonmel to Dublin route so there's buses every 2hours or so

Bennettsbridge is halfway between Thomastown and KK, the above mentioned bus service passed through on the way twice a day. Call me biased but I'd live there before Thomastown.

Thanks a lot, regarding supermarkets, what does Thomastown have?

How far is it to drive from Thomastown to Kilkenny and how much does the bus or train cost please?

Train is expensive I think and about a mile or a little less outside town, Kilbrides bus is maybe 7 return?? But free with the pension travel pass, or at least it was last time I took it. you also have New Ross and Waterford fairly close too
