Advice on Flights/Layovers etc

    Hi guys,

I'm looking to book some flights from Dublin to Koh Samui next March. Using BudgetAir.ie I'm getting some really cheap prices of about €560. The route is Dublin->Kuala Lumpur->Samui however the layover time in Kuala Lumper is only 1 hour 15 minutes. Do you think this is sufficient?

I spoke to the booking agency who said if the flight into KL is late then its up to me to take it up with the airline. However I am flying with 3 different airlines (Aer Lingus, Malaysian and Bangkok Airlines) so I'm worried if I miss the last leg is it up to Bangkok Airlines to accommodate me on the next flight or is it simply not their problem?

Also do you know if I can check bags all the way through with 3 different airlines like this?

Good God, I would say an hour and fifteen minutes for any kind of layover is far too short and would be extremely stressful.
As you are flying with Aer Lingus on the first leg, it might be worth noting that they will probably use an air bridge rather than steps which would add an extra 10 minute wait or so when the plane lands.

I've should have plenty of time with the first leg, the layover I'm worried about is in Kuala Lumper, I would be getting off a Malaysian airlines flight and onto a Bangkok airline flight

You've left out the fact that you're flying into Heathrow first. There's pretty much no chance you'll leave Heathrow on time and the Malaysia Airlines flight to KL is only on time about a third of the time.

That said, the flight from KL to Samui is operated by Bangkok Airways but it's a codeshare with Malaysian so they should look after you if you miss the connection.

EDIT There's only one flight a day from KL to Samui though so if you miss it you're stuck for a day. Not worth the risk.

You're probably right, just checked flights to KL from Heathrow this week and every one of them has been late.

On the other hand I would think there would be at least a 10-20 people on the flight into KL catching the connection down to Samui so they may delay the Samui flight. The same happened me in Atlanta last year, flight from Dublin was late so the connecting flight to Orlando was delayed to wait for it.

They might. Unlikely though. Bangkok Airways don't have a huge fleet so that plane needs to be elsewhere that day.

Simple scenario for you. Are you prepared to risk having to spend a day (at least) in KL on that hunch?

Plus if you're using KL low cost carrier terminal, I've found it to be particularly chaotic with gates changing with little notice and gates screens not up-dated.

The LCCT has been closed for two years. Those airlines now use KLIA Terminal 2 which is fine and only a couple of minutes from the main terminal.
