My family and I are moving to Cork City (2 boys, 5 years old & 8 years old) and wondering if anyone could recommend a good primary school? Preferably near the city - we'll be living on the north side, probably in St Luke's. Thanks!

If you wish to stay in the area, the nearest school for boys is probably St. Patrick's on Gardiner's Hill. It is a good school, from what I have heard. Glasheen Boys school is an excellent school but it is near UCC so might be a little far for you if you don't want to drive them to school. St. Anthony's in Ballinlough is also good but it is a bit too big and perhaps a bit too far away for you. Have you made enquiries?

Unfortunately I don't know anything about the schools in the St. Lukes area. However, I am replyng to this as I am happy to second what overmantle said.:) I have two sons in Glasheen which is an outstanding school with great teachers, a fantastic atmosphere and lots of great things happening there. It may be a bit far away for you but I know that some pupils travel from quite a distance to attend Glasheen. Hope this helps and that your sons find a school where they will be happy.

I suppose it depends on what exactly you are looking for. Are you interested in the Educate Together School for example which is in the City Centre? I agree with the other posters that however, Glasheen is an excellent school and if you are prepared to go a little further, I would certainly choose Glasheen for my boys. Perhaps you are sorted by now?? If not, I would make contact quickly as they have very strong demand for places every year.
