Route to Become a Primary Teacher

I know someone who is sitting the leaving cert next year and wants to do Primary Teaching as a career. I know you can do a BEd in St. Pats. Mary I, Marino or Maynooth, but the points are all roughly the same.

As a fall back position, what is the best alternative route? Do a different degree and take a conversion course (which seem to be hard to get into), or do a BEd in the UK and look to get it recognised in Ireland? What is the best alternative route to take?

    Thanks
