Roosters Crow

It is almost 5am and my rooster is at it as normal. I have a theory as to why they crow at dawn that does not seem to appear on the net.

Our neighbour had a rooster and they used to have a crow battle every morning at 5am.

The neighbours rooster got killed by a fox a few days ago and i noticed our rooster being far more protective of the hens.

My theory is that the crowing at dawn is a sort of call and response. If there is no response then that is a sign of danger. I imagine a neighbourhood of roosters signally at dawn, whoever does not signal points towards where there might be danger etc.
