Painting Kitchen Cabinets

Considering attempting to paint some old kitchen cabinets, I'm not great at DIY but have done an ok job at painting walls before.

Is this too difficult a job for novices? Does it only work on certain types of kitchen cabinets or does that not matter? Is it better to use a brush or roller?

More information please. What type of material is being painted? Wood finish, laminate etc?

There's a pic of one of them if that's any use.

that picture is not much use. But to answer your question yes it's very do-able, my partner painted wooden cupboard doors in a kitchen we had. He took each one off, cleaned it and painted it front and back with cream paint. I think he may have done two coats. It took ages as there were loads of them and I was at him to just lash a bit of paint on the front but the job he did lasted for the 8 years we were in that house and for all I know they're still there. It looked like a new kitchen once he was done. You do need to do different types of prep and laminate would definitely need a special undercoat though afaik.
ps as far as I remember he used a brush.
