2010 Avensis brakes

I have an 2010 Avensis and I replaced the rear brake pads 5000 miles ago.The brakes started squealing last week so I checked the pads and on one wheel they were completly worn.I fitted a new set and kept an eye on them and found that the disc was getting very hot.I pulled them apart again, wound back the piston and redone them.when i pumped the brakes the hub turned normally but when I activated the electronic handbrake and knocked it off the pads remained tight to the disc.Even if I disconnect the handbrake at this stage they still remain tight.I imagine its a sticking piston in the caliper but Id like to make sure before I do anything.I think sticking Calipers may be a problem on this model as the other side was changed before I bought the car.Any advice on the problem would be appreciated.

    Have a read of this:
    http://www.acuravigorclub.com/Timely-Topics/Timely1204-2.htm

    Inner pad wear

Inner pad wear usually occurs when the piston can't retract properly. The piston may be binding in a scored cylinder. The piston seal may be distorted or just plain worn out. Both of these indicate a caliper teardown and rebuild.

The pad may be binding on a corroded caliper bracket. If this is the case, you may be able to clean the corrosion with emory cloth and brake cleaner. (Remember to keep brake cleaner away from rubber parts.) After the sliding surfaces have been cleaned, apply a dab of brake lubricant.

    Outer pad wear

Outer pads will wear prematurely if the caliper bracket or (more likely) the caliper pins are corroded or if they're lubricated with the wrong lubricant. Again, they should be cleaned with emory cloth and lubricated with brake lubricant. Improperly installed pin boots are another possibility.

Both pads on one side thinner than pads on opposite side

This is generally caused by a hydraulic problem, although it may also be caused by a sticky piston. More often, the cause is a restriction in the brake hose on the opposite side. The side with the premature wear may also have a brake hose with internal damage that acts like a check valve, preventing the release of the brake fluid.

On my Insignia with electronic handbrake you need to reset it after changing the pads, maybe this is also the case with yours.

A quick Google indeed reveals that the electronic handbrake needs to be reset using a diagnostics kit.

AFAIK (and I have replaced pads on a few of these) the reset can also be done by simply turning on the ignition and holding down the EPB button for over 5 seconds.

Thanks for replies.Caliper changed,No need to do anything with hand brake.I thought I might have to because I had one wheel disconnected for a few days and it was doing all sorts of quare things since.I think the more recent models need to be reset. On those I think the handbrake comes on automatically when ignition is turned off.

Is it a Mk2 or Mk3 Avensis because the Mk3 needs it reset for definite.

Very last of the mk2 was 2009, unless it was held by a dealer.

1st post says electronic which means its a mk3

Its a Mk3.and the parking brake definitely does not have to be reset on 09/10 Model.
