So, as of tomorrow I am officially being made redundant. I've gone through the month long consultation, have accepted the redundancy payment and the official letter/email will be sent to me tomorrow telling me I have been made redundant and this is my notice etc...

I've never been unemployed before or been made redundant before so this is all new to me, what I wanted to ask any of you knowledgeable people is what do I sign on for now? Is it job seekers allowance or benefit? When do I do this? After the notice period or tomorrow? Also I have a job starting in September, so how does that effect my benefit,or will I still have to do courses and interviews?

Sorry for so many questions, any insight anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

If you have been working for 2 years you will qualify for Jobseekers Benefit, you can do this tomorrow. If you are not available for work you can not claim it so if you are not looking for other work between now and September you can't claim it.

Sign on the first day you are available for work
You cannot sign on before that
Having a possibility of a job in September is irrelevant
That job may never materialise, so as of tomorrow when you are asked if you are looking for and available for full time work, the answer is "YES"
You will be entitled to JSB
You will be expected to show that you are looking for work and you should continue to apply for positions
You can apply to have your partner and children considered your dependents, but payslips and bank statements of your partner will be required

The amount of redundancy payment if you are under 55 years of age will affect your entitlement to jobseekers benefit.
    See below.

If you are aged under 55 and get a redundancy payment of more than €50,000 you are disqualified from claiming Jobseeker's Benefit. The table below shows how long you may be disqualified for. The length of the disqualification is at the discretion of the deciding officer (who can take your circumstances into account). Any period of disqualification is subtracted from your total Jobseeker's Benefit entitlement. So if you are disqualified for 3 weeks (which is 18 days payment) your JB claim starts on day 19. Note that people who take voluntary redundancy and do not get a redundancy payment of over €50,000 can claim jobseeker's payments immediately.
Amount of redundancy payment Period of disqualification
    €50,000.01 - €55,000 1 week
    €55,000.01 - €60,000 2 weeks
    €60,000.01 - €65,000 3 weeks
    €65,000.01 - €70,000 4 weeks
    €70,000.01 - €75,000 5 weeks
    €75,000.01 - €80,000 6 weeks
    €80,000.01 - €85,000 7 weeks
    €85,000.01 - €90,000 8 weeks
    €90,000.01 and over 9 weeks
