    Hi Folks,

Planning a long wknd of Links golf. Our base will be rosses point in sligo. Looking for 3 courses within a 2 hour max drive of that.

Strandhill and rosses point are both out, so any other courses people would recommend please?

    Cheers

    Westport isn't a links course.

I know but the next nearest links is Murvagh and Westport is lovely.

Agree, but what would be a third? Mind you, nothing wrong with playing either of those twice.

Murvagh would be well worth a visit, it's probably a similar drive as Carne.

Achill and mullraney are both nine hole courses and close to each other. Play both in one day.

Cheers folks. Enniscorne is on just golf at the moment, so that works out well.

    Keep the suggestions coming.

I've played all the courses in the area and as others said Enniscrone is a must. Carne is fantastic and so is murvagh, but murvagh is less than an hour and Carne is nearly two.

Carne is the better course, but Murvagh is also brilliant.

whatever you choose of those three, you will not be disappointed.

My bad on saying it was an hour. It's an hour from me but that's no use to the OP.

Having said that, you'll rarely ever be too close to Carne. If staying in Sligo, I would advise making the trip.

OP, if your on a budget, Carne won't break the bank. I'm not sure of the rack rate but give them a call for a price.

Agree wholeheartedly on the Enniscrone recommendation... and it really is a course you'll want to play twice. There are enough blind/unbelievable/astounding shots that you'll want to give it another lash.

Carne is a fair trip. Two hours, but as so many have said, it is worth the trek and the food in the clubhouse is very good. There are also 27 holes and they all deserve to be played.

Other than Murvagh in the other direction, there's also Bundoran. Not a big quality links like the others but a strong test of golf.

So we've got 2 of the 3. Enniscrone and Narin. Carne is on the shortlist for the 3rd along with portsalon.

    Cheers for the input folks

You won't be disappointed with Narin, it really builds up after a tame start. There's one hole, a shortish par 4, from an elevated tee that looks down to the Atlantic surrounding the green. It's stunning.

Why not travel into Co Donegal where you will get some wonderful links. I would recommend Port Salon, Dunfanaghy, Cruit Island, Rosapenna ( they have 2 courses i.e. Tom Morris and Sandy Hills ).. The drive may be bit longer than staying around Co Mayo and Co Sligo but for value and quality of course you wont go wrong .

Yeah portsalon is on the shortlist and we're playing narin. May stretch the drive and head up to ballyliffin for the final round.

Nairn is s great course but a fair old drive from Sligo. I wouldn't pass Murvagh. Very little between them

Strand hill definitely not available? I loved it there and obviously beside you
