    hey

i recently got a HG659B router and i purchased a Huawei e3372 to use with the router. my problem is i can not get the router to connect to the internet via the e3372. all it shows is disconnected

i tested the dongle with my computer before and after trying with the router and it worked without problems each time but when i use it with the router all it says is disconnected i have tried restarting the connection and the router multiple times but still no luck.

i have also updated the firmware on the router to the latest on the sparks website thinking that would have solved the problem.
i have also updated the firmware on the dongle.

the settings i use for the router i got from sparks new Zealand website. i cant post the link because im a new user

i have tried using the settings of my mobile broadband provider but it still says disconnected.

the router does show that the dongle is connected to it as it gives me the option to turn off the sim's PIN but i just cant get it to connect to the internet.

does anyone know how to solve this issue or where i could go to get further help?

Has anyone actually got this router to work with mobile broadband??

I would be grateful for any help or advice

    Grim.

here are the setting i have on the router

    INTERNET_UMTS

    Enable Connection: Ticked
    Service Type: Internet
    Data Card Internet Mode: auto
    Switch Delay Time: 60
    PPP Trigger Mode: Always Online
    Internet Account: <leave blank>
    Internet Password: <leave blank>
Note: the modem will default in asterisks even if no password is entered
    PPP Service Name: <leave blank>
    APN: Internet
    Dial Number: *99#
    IP Protocol Version: IPv4
    Static DNS: un ticked

i dont know if the above setting are correct but thats the setting it says on the sparks website.
i find the settings a bit strange as what is the dial number?? why is the APN internet and not the mobile broadband providers APN.?

i have tried changing these setting to the mobile broadband setting but still no luck.
    e.g
    Internet Account: <leave blank>
    Internet Password: <leave blank>
Note: the modem will default in asterisks even if no password is entered
    PPP Service Name: <leave blank>
    APN: 3ireland.ie
    Dial Number: <leave blank>

here are the setting i have on 4g dongle

    Mobile data : ON
    Data roaming: Enable
    Auto Disconnect Interval(Min): 120

    Network
    Support LTE networks: On
    Network Search
    Mode: Auto

can anyone see a problem with these settings?

Ignore sparks, you need Vodafone IEs generic 3G config. It'll be somewhere on the midband child subforum.

i cant seem to find it by searching for it. do u know of any other words used in the thread that would help narrow down the search?

are u sure this will fix my issue? i don't understand how Vodafone generic 3G config could allow me to actually connect to internet using the dongle.

Have changed the setting on the router to allow it to use the dongle? Somewhere you can set up fallover so if your broadband fails it switches to midband (dongle) but the same setting also allows you to set the router to use the fixed line only or dongle only (afaik).

    Try post 4.

nah no luck. still says disconnected. i tried the 3mobile settings again since it a 3 sim but still no luck. when i try to connect it a dialog box pops up and says says please wait and then it goes off and still says disconnected. im pulling my hair out with this. i bought the huawei brand dongle thinking it would make it easy to set up. Im not even sure if this dongle is compatible with the router but i cant find a compatibility list anywhere.

one thing i noticed was after a few minutes the router will say
"The SIM card cannot be found. Ensure that you have inserted the card properly."
i have to take the dongle out and put it back it again for it to recognize it again. but it will say it again a few minutes later.

from looking at the dongle its led blinks every 2 seconds when in the router which means it is trying to connect to a 4g network. i left it in for over 15 mins and it stays like that. it connected in less than 30's when in my computer.

do u know if it is possible to access the dongle's UI since its on a different subnet (192.168.8.*). i get redirected to the router's UI every time i try to access it.

yeah i think i have enabled it and i have it set to always online and "Automatically access the Internet with the data card when the fixed cable fails". i have tried to connect to it manually also and i still dont get a connection.

pls see the setting i have in the second post.

Another question for ye. the parents have a F1000 router down home. do any of ye know is this compatible with a 3g/4g router as i could just switch there's with the f2000.

    EDIT!!
it appears it does. i'll try that later on in the week when i get time.
