Are camcorders worth the money or is the video from iphones and digital cameras as good?

Depends on the camcorder & your requirements.

The camera on my Galaxy S7 is great (I'd say it's the best camera on a phone to date) - but the footage is still far more compressed than a dedicated camcorder. I have a Sony AX100 which shoots great quality 4k, and has built in ND filters, etc. So the Sony is much better for editing, and can shoot longer & has a better battery, etc.

So it all depends on what you need.

The zoom and gyro stabilisation on mid range camcorders is pretty impressive
