Who do you appeal to if you suspect gender discrimination in a public service appointment ?
Can anybody point me in the right direction please?

    Hi Juneg

Here's the citizens info page on Equality in the workplace:
    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employment/equality_in_work/equality_in_the_workplace.html

It has a section at the end 'Enforcing your rights' on some options available:
The Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission and the Workplace Relations Commission are separate organisations that work to ensure equality at work.

The Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission is a statutory body set up to provide information to the public on human rights and equality legislation. It can, at its discretion, provide legal assistance to people who wish to bring claims to the Equality Tribunal. You can find the booklet, Your Employment Equality Rights Explained on http://ihrec.ie

The Workplace Relations Commission is the place to bring a discrimation claim under the Employment Equality Acts 1998–2015 using the online complaint form available on workplacerelations.ie). It investigates or mediates claims of unlawful discrimination under equality legislation.

Just from quickly looking, ihrec has this really useful looking info booklet:
    http://www.ihrec.ie/download/pdf/ihrec_employment_equality_rights_explained.pdf

It is a bit long but looks like they know the area fairly well so maybe get in touch with them. Their contact details are here: http://www.ihrec.ie/contact/
At this time IHREC is not in a position to accommodate drop-in callers to our offices - this is due to the ongoing refurbishments at 16-22, Green Street. Should you wish to raise an issue regarding equality/discrimination or human rights please contact our Public Information Centre by phone on 1 890 245545 or by e –mail on publicinfo@ihrec.ie
The Public Information Centre is open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 10.30 – 12.30 and 14.30 – 16.30.

Probably difficult to prove unless it was blatant. You can request to see the interview notes but unless it's in black and white!
