Tar from Chimney

    Hi all

Was hoping someone could help me!

Bought a house a few months ago and I'm in the process of renovation. Had a bit of bother with the chimney.

Had a birds nest lodged in the chimney which I had removed a cowl fitted. Got a Chimney Sweep out yesterday to give it a clear but he kept hitting a tar type material. He tried a camera but could only see so far until the camera got covered. After he left I've had a stream of tar coming down the chimney.

    Has anyone else experienced this?!

    Many thanks.

    Liquid or solid tar?
It caused by burning wet fuel, mainly timber, you need to get it cleaned, which the sweep should have done, as if goes on fire it will crack the flue liner, and possibly the chimney.

Rather than a brush he needed to use a rotating "whip like" brush to break it off

It's liquid tar. Would post a picture but board won't let me as I'm a new user.

He did use a rotating brush with small chains on the end.
