Ceasing employment, procedure for social

Hi, I am currently on zero hour contract (16hours a week) in my employment but can no longer continue to work due to health reasons.

I sign X&O dockets and receive social welfare for the days I'm not in work.

My question is how do I go about stopping work without the social withholding payments, do they look for a letter from employer? Or is it a P45 I need? I don't want to be waiting weeks for claim to be processed and therefore being without weekly payments.

    Thanks

If you can't work due to health reason you need to look at either going on illness benefit (the short term) or disability allowance (the long term). If you stop work and say to the DSP you did this due to health reasons making work untenable (and they WILL asky why you left employment) they will stop your JSA as you are no longer able for and looking for full time work. So one of these payments are the likely cause of action for you now if you are stopping work

    Hi
First go to your GP and ask him to complete a SW illness benefit application form. You will have to complete part of the form too. include your partner and dependent children on the form if you have a partner and children.
take the form to your local SW office.
you cannot get a jobseekers payment if you are not "fit" for work.
I don't know if you will be eligible for illness benefit because I don't know your recent PRSI history but Illness Benefit entitlement is based on the PRSI paid by and credited to you in 2014.
You should make an appointment to speak to your CWO regarding a SWA payment while your waiting to be sorted out.

Thanks for the replies. I've been working the last three years (casual 19hours) i want to pursue a course instead and find less physical Work, im not work shy it's just i can't do it it's killing me!

I will go to the doctor on Monday and explain. I wonder if I explained that I wanted to pursue a course in September would that help with the social?

I could be waiting weeks maybe months for a decision from illness section. :(😞

Yes you could be waiting months, however, once you have a claim in, you can go to the SWO and get an interim payment, so you shouldn't be left penniless
