Press screening this week sometime (I think Sat AM), limited screenings this weekend and full release next week.

I'm gonna see it on Saturday. I think it looks really funny so I'm super hopeful.

Saw it this morning. It's good enough. Albert Brooks is brilliant, as is Kevin Hart (It helps not having to watch him).

As ButtersSuki said, it's on limited release from tomorrow, but reviews are embargoed until Sunday. On general release from Friday 24th.

Would older kids enjoy this? Like 11 year olds? Can't see anything else for a end of term outing.

    I can't see why not.

It can be an odd age for movies especially girls. I was worried an animated movie might be too babyish and other movies can be too old for some kids.

Yeah it was good. About as funny as these movies get when they're not Pixar/Disney anyway. I liked Gidget, and I liked a certain bird character I won't spoil.

Went with 3 others today (2 kids and another adult) and we all loved it. Best animated movie I've seen in quite a while (much better than Angry Birds) and it was very funny. There were some lovely visual gags straight out of the Zucker Abrahams Zucker playbook, so keep an eye on the background and for little extra details. They really elevate this above the standard animated fare.

The Minions short before the movie was hilarious too.

A very decent animation with plenty of laughs but not quite as good as the trailers seemed to promise.
Still though at over 2 hours it didn't lag.

It was nowhere near as clever as Zootropolis/zootopia but still miles better than the woeful Angry Birds.
Several nods to its Despicable heritage but never felt as warm especially as a pet movie could be. Just lacked that Disney Pixar touch. With one exception, there was one 90 second Bill Withers - Lovely Day segment near the end worthy of the masters.

Don't jump up until the second lot of credits or you will miss one of the funnier bits from Leonard.

New York looked good. It brushes up well.

I thought the texturing in the graphics was the best I've seen yet. New York looked really well done too. OKish story that kept you in your seat for long enough. Didn't quite have the level of 'pathos' that ' the good dinosaur '/toy story had. Although a few times I thought it was going that way (in terms of death scenes!)
    Kids liked it too.

Over 2 hours for a kids movie? IMDB lists it as 90 minutes.

The version I saw in the cinema last night was 90 mins too unless they're including ads and trailers.

Did the minions short count towards the running time as well?

That's about 3-4 minutes long. Including ads and trailers the 10pm showing was out at 11.40pm last night.

Can't wait to see this, trailer looks great

I thought this was very poor. None of the characters are particularly likeable and for a 90 minute movie I still checked my watch several times.

Imc cinemas show length as 2 hours 5 min, other sites show between 110 mins and 2 hours. Tbh I didn't check my watch afterwards but it felt longer than 90 mins so either different cinemas have different versions or maybe it really did lag, so they used a perceived length. Maybe the credits were longer than usual.

IMC also list the Angry Birds movie as "2 hours", and that's only 97 minutes. Cineworld.ie, IMDB, and Wikipedia all say the runtime of TSLoP is 90/91 minutes. If you Google search "secret life of pets runtime", you get an answer of "1h 31m". IMC must be including trailers, ads, shorts or whatever before the film, or are just putting any length of time down. I think it would be unfair to bash the "duration" of a film, and include the length of trailers, ads, etc.

The second 'talking pets' film of the summer, and definitely the lesser of the two. Though while it wasn't half as funny or smart as Zootropolis / Zootropia, it still entertained and contained a happy ratio of child / adult humour as to keep all ages distracted. Decidedly average yes, but with enough good sight gags that it'll linger in the memory for a spell.

Credit too to Chris Renaud & Yarrow Cheney in creating the vibrant, elastic style that really fizzed on-screen; it felt like a mix between Despicable Me & Pixar sensibilities; between this duo, Laika Studios, Disney's own animation department and the aforementioned masters at Pixar, the world of cinematic animation is in rude health, Dreamworks notwithstanding.

I really enjoyed it, very easy watching and funny too. One of the better animations released over the last few years :)
