Was originally in the hunt for a Scirocco but turned my eye to these as seem more value for money in the second hand market, Just unsure on what engine size to pick 1.4/1.6.
Looking up north there seems to be much better pricing especially with the conversion rate.
Any current owners have any advice?
    Thanks

Which model of Astra are you talking about as there has been two generations of the GTC models, first one since 2005 and second one since 2011.

The first generation engines are straight out of the other Astra models and nothing to write home about unless your talking about the OPC version.

The turbo version of either of those engines in the current model are the best as the non turbo versions are woefully underpowered.

Sorry I should've been more specific it's the one after the 2011 like this one,

So I should look out for the turbo version? Cheers would not have know that.

I'd go for a Scirocco any day over an Astra, it will also hold it's value better.
I had a similar Astra sporthatch and had nothing but trouble with it.

Those astra's are good cars in their own right. The engines are what let them down. The chassis is pretty decent and they drive well.

With the 1.4 turbo 120 and 140bhp (rare) the M32 gearbox in them is known to be troublesome so make sure all is OK there. The electric handbrake (standard pre-May 2013) can cause faster wear on rear pads on some cars.

Make sure you're getting it significantly cheaper than a Scirocco of a similar vintage though.

Thanks for the helpful advice, I was worried about the engine and lack of holding its value based on reading reviews online,
I was originally going for a scirocco but cant seem to figure out whats good value for the 1.4 cars like year wise and spec wise in the 15k budget area as many of them seem to be overpriced for what they are.
