    Hi all

Was planning on purchasing a used car this weekend. 2011 VW Passat cc.
Planned to buy privately so a lot of money to handover therefore did my research.
Found that it was a cat c write off in the UK noting extensive damage.
Car looks like it's been repaired well - didn't view it physically however.

Anyway, a lesson and for me, good money spent to ensure I wasn't buying a bad example. Still for sale and nothing to advise of this. Buyer beware I guess.
    Just thought I'd share.

Can I put up a link? I didn't really wanna bad mouth anyone more so share a story of why checking history of a car is a good thing to do.

Should be fine if you can post proof of it ;)

The country is a wash with dodgy cars that people do zero checks when buying, it's the best money you every spent. The advantage of the UK stuff is it's actually recorded properly with levels of damage, here it's a complete mess.

IIRC a private seller doesn't have to volunteer any information about the vehicle but if asked can't lie, proving what they said is the hard part. A garage/dealer has to be upfront about the vehicle that they are selling.

Which is why you also do a history check and get an inspection dine no matter who you buy off.
