We want a complete overhaul done of our house. We want all woodwork throughout house painted including all skirting, and room doors and also the kitchen unit which is approx 25 presses/drawers/surround wood. Also want to paint all walls and ceilings in the entire house. House is a 1000sq foot bungalow. Its a huge job but wondering is 7k an over-estimation. Nearly choked when I got the quote. Doesn't include the paint.

Are we just naive to the cost of things nowadays?

hi o.p. its a big enough job yes and that's assuming you live in the property with furniture carpet flooring etc which obviously makes it more awkward as opposed to an empty shell but that quote is above and beyond i.m.o.
For that price you could REPLACE all your kitchen doors and worktops and still have the house painted
Start speaking to one and all ,family, friends, work colleagues, and mention you're looking for a painter . getting someone from word of mouth is the best way to be honest
I'm guessing you have a small porch/hall area, living room, kitchen with dining/living room ,bathroom and 3 bedrooms not the biggest house in the world,
It should take 2 men about 2 weeks , nice job to get, keep asking around and you'll get someone that's good, reliable with a fair quote and then that's who you can stick with in the future and also pass on to someone else, hope it works out

7k sounds a bit rich for a 1000sq house..For just labour. But after saying that, walls could need a lot of attention..(falling down) lol?? And they could be sending of the press doors to be sprayed..?? *read the charter*

Painting kitchen doors can be a very expensive process. There's a lot of prep work involved, particularly if the doors are mdf rather than solid wood and it often involves specialist paint etc. too.

As an experienced professional I can tell, that painting the whole house cost 3500-4000 including paint and kitchen painting cost under 2000 euros.

My Uncle is a painter & decorator and he said himself that 7k is a bit steep, although don't underestimate how expensive painters are and expect to pay a few grand anyway.
    But nothing like 7k.

The prep is the biggest thing for a painter; that takes up a lot of time and God knows what state your woodwork/doors, etc are in and he'll have to fill holes and sand, etc, so it's not just a case of picking up a paintbrush.

Keep looking for more quotes, OP, if you haven't done so already.

Hi, anyone know how to know a Painter is a professional?
I am getting my house done 4 rooms, kitchen sitting room, hall stairs and landing.

I have had two painters in so far from the net.
but how do I know they are qualified painters???????

I could paint the house myself, but just want someone else who knows what they are doing to paint it for me :-)
