Sorry if this post appears more than once - I have tried to post it a couple of times but it does not show up so trying again.

I am going to look at this car tomorrow and wondering if anyone can advise me on anything to look out for with this type of car, or has any comments about the car itself.

    http://www.joeduffy.ie/mazda/used-cars/12093/seat-leon/

I am also open to other car suggestions if anyone has any ideas. I am looking for a reliable family car preferably with low mileage and not older than 2013. Budget is 18k max. Estate or hatchback but open to anything else providing it has a decent size boot. Have an octavia already and not interested in another.

    Thanks all

It's worth looking for one with the plus pack - LED headlights and nicer 17 inch alloys. The pack can be had in a hatch too.

If you didn't mind the smaller boot there are a few 150bhp FRs about, they've a much better spec and there isn't any real economy penalty having the 2 litre. You'll be looking at a slightly older or slightly higher mileage car though.

The hatch doesn't have the space in the boot like the Octavia and you might find it a bit tight.

I test drove both brand new and personally found the Octavia a better car. it just feels like a notch above the Seat from a quality perspective, and I found the cockpit a much nicer place to sit. The cars themselves felt similar to drive - perhaps there was less road noise in the Skoda, but in general I didn't find much between the 2 cars.We were actually a hair away from ordering a brand new Octavia 1.2 TSI 110BHP (though I think that is now being replaced with a 1 litre 115 BHP TSI), but from a financial standpoint have decided to stick with 2nd hand.

In general though, the Octavia would be my first choice

Thanks for the feedback, I do think the octavia looks nice inside and out have to get a test drive in both to confirm. Seat are doing a €2.5k trade in bonus at moment which was swaying it but can always try use to get a better price on an octavia.

Not sure how you are financing it but Skoda are doing 0% PCP on the Octavia. Seat are doing 0% on some models but this does not include the ST.

Edit - I think there may be 0% on the top spec Seat ST models but I was looking at the SE version and it was not 0%

yes I'm the same, was comparing SE Spec ST and ambition spec octavia. Will be looking the finance route with trade in, and possible additional deposit if it's worthwhile paying up front.
