Another oil question

Hi all,

Sorry if this is a basic question......

Driving an old but still going 2002 Nissan Almera 1.5L petrol 5dr. Looking at doing the service myself but not sure what oil to use.

Went into Halfords last week and the online guide said to use 5w30 semi synthetic but the garage that i was last at had put in 10w40 semi synthetic.

Now for the last while the engine has been burning alot of oil, i just put this down to the age of the car.

Could this be because the wrong oil be being used?!

The Castrol site recommends 5W-30 fully synthetic A5 so you would need Ford spec oil from Halfords.

This could be down to the oil, the old VVTI corolla engines had bottom blocks replaced years ago. Mechanic etc said 10/40 was the right oil for my car but it kept burning through it. Checked the manual one day and it recommended 5/30. Have put 5/30 in the car for the last 10 years now and not a drop burnt

A5/B5 is a fuel consumption oriented spec... I'd rather get a 5Wxx A3/B4...
