Turas Nua + New Job

    Hi all,

I recently was sent a letter to attend a Turas Nua meeting. By sheer coicidence I also had a job interview the same day. I informed Turas Nua of this and rearranged my meeting.

The job interview went well and I was offered a full time job starting in September.

Now my question is this. Am I obliged to continue with Turas Nua? Also, can I continue to get jobseekers allowance until my job starts? I have no other way of supporting myself until then.

    Many thanks.

Best thing to do is ask them, but as the job doesn't start immediately, you may have to continue with Tuaras Nua.
You will continue to get jobseeker's allowance while on JobPath (TuarasNua), and you would sign off just before your job starts in September.

You will have to continue to engage with Turas Nua... you are still in receipt of a jobseekers payment even though you have been offered a full time job in September you still need to be available and looking for full time work in the mean time.

I am with Tura Nua 4 months and still I have not applied for a job yet . I get put on motivation courses as they know its not possible to find someone a job at 60 .

If they know it's impossible to find someone a job over 60, why are they insisting that you have to be included in Turas Nua?

I am over 60, so I asked my DSP Intreo office why I needed to go to Turas Nua at my age and they gave me a form to apply for disability, saying that if I filled that in and sent it off, Turas Nua would take me off their books, which they did do.

What are these motivation courses like? Are they interesting or useful in any way?

Are you 62 then you are not required to engage .Interesting I might try that as I get Vertigo. There are some use as its preparing you for interviews ,writing CV and cover letter but they did this for me at the first session anyhow. They use exaggerated phrases from a template like wonderful, brilliant more like a sales pitch .

Oh i told the lady on the phone earlier and all she wanted to know was my BTEA approved.. sure ive a repeat to pass in august but i will.. All that paper work like registration and conformation of my enrolement won't be issued by the college for a week or two into the term.

When is your appointment? Looks like you might have to attend while you are receiving jsa during the summer.

Were you on BTEA before the summer? and is your return to college in September a continuation of the course you are doing? If the answer to both is yes then you should never have been called to Turas Nua as all offices were instructed to put a certain category on people returning to college in September so that they wouldnt be pulled for Turas Nua.

I was only part time in college as i was repeating modules.. so i had to sign on as well as attending lectures, the social was paying me jobseekers..
that was fine but ill be going into the final year of my degree in sept..
ive been applying for jobs but no luck..
I just don't see the point in doing this when im flat out in the books for my repeat exam in august..

    pointless..

Unfortunately in your current situation you do have to engage with Turas Nua as you are in receipt of a jobseekers allowance payment.
If you dont engage then your payment will be reduced and possibly suspended.

yeah you didnt mention that though did you.

we can only advise you when you give us the full story.
BTEA is contingent on your being accepted into the next year of your course.
