Any manufacturer responsibility?

    Hi,

I recently had an accident in my car as a result of the foot rest pedal coming off and getting jammed behind the brake pedal.

Thankfully it was in rush hour traffic so wasn't going a high speed.

I had a full dealer service a month ago. Does the manufacturer have any responsibility or am I clutching at straws?

Wouldn't expect this to come loose especially anything that's next to the pedals.

    Thanks,
    Nathan

How old was the car? Did you do a search online to see if there's other reports of similar problems with the same model of car?

How old is the car? Was there any modifications to the foot rest or are you referring to the actual rubber cover?

Its a 2008. I have the car 2 years and have had annual dealer service for those 2 years. No modifications to the pedal but when I looked at the foot rest pedal after the accident, one of the clips had a plastic tab missing.

Got onto the manufacturer and they said there's no known issue. All they said was to bring it to a dealer for an examination of the pedal. Which I assume I'll be charged for

You're lucky - apparently some Toyota cars accelerate on their own...

How exactly do you mean foot rest pedal. Was it the plastic rest for your left foot going under your brake pedal ?

    Ya the plastic piece

Thanks for the post, not of any help to you but I have the same issue on my Toyota, it's a year 2000 auto and in Asia so no good as a reference. However the plastic clips are also broken which allows it to come free, I've been meaning to glue it down and your post lights a bit of a fire under me! Assume these are removed for some reason hence the clips breaking, check with the garage if they have been removing and replacing it during servicing although I can't imagine why it would be necessary.
