Shelbourne wedding

    Hi all!

I'm getting married in the Shelbourne this year- exciting!!!

Unfortunately because it's the shelbourne they are very rigid with everything- absolutely zero room for negotiation on anything!

What I'm a bit concerned about is that the residents bar is the open plan lounge at the entrance to the hotel and they won't give us the private horseshoe bar to the right. In addition, they are having another wedding on the same day and same rules apply so we're both going to end up in the residents bar together! Anyone been to a wedding in the shelbourne and have any reviews?

The non-negotiation and exclusivity should have been explained, known about and agreed before booking. If exclusivity is that big a thing for you now theres pretty much nothing you can do about it other than not worry about it or book upstairs in a bar elsewhere across the road like nesbitts or o'donoghues who'll be happy to accommodate.

Other than that, the weddings are usually good. if you're in the ballroom, note the bar is outside. People get talking there, they stay there.

Are you in the ballroom? If so you should have more guests than the other wedding and it shouldn't be a big deal.

We are getting married there next year and are having a small wedding and I didn't even think of another wedding using that area as their residents bar also. I had sutpidly assumed that the ballroom would have its own residents bar.

Yes, we're in the ballroom and In fairness, the shelbourne did say from the outset that they hold multiple weddings on the same day. I just assumed that we'd be allowed to use the lounge area in the ballroom as our residents bar or that they'd allow us to use the horseshoe bar which is private- seems that they want people to use the Lord Mayors lounge area as the residents bar as its open plan and so people can't be too merry!

They also limited the number of guest rooms that we can have to 10 rooms which isn't ideal- didn't think about that in advance of booking. My other recommendation is to bring your own wine and pay corkage- you won't save anything but you'll have much better quality wine for the same price.
