Seeing as he's without as yet a scheduled team for next season, I'm thinking the Irish govt should plough millions into An Post team & sign up Peter Sagan to spearhead the team for a few years. The justification to the grumblers could be something like "a fitting way to commemorate the events of 1916 & for which all right-thinking Irish people will fully & proudly support."

So let's put in a 90-degree corner with less than 150 metres to go to the finish line.... that won't be dangerous at all!

Here it is (from yesterday, Stage 4), and Danny van Poppel's ridiculous save!

Crazy stuff. Van Poppel's composure & skill saved him some serious pain there.

....but it didnt save him from a D/Q on the stage for 'dangerous riding' ..........nothing to do with course lay-out or anything

    DQ seems very harsh there.

For touching Sagan's wheel? How could it not be dangerous riding to be contesting such a sprint in the first place?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,689 ✭✭✭Taxuser1

tomorrow's final climb is a doozey

    7kms

    first 3 at 10.8%
    next 3 at 13%
    final km 7%

everyone looks just about on the same level so could be a cracker again

I think a few years ago they did. Along with the Tour de Romandie and a few other races if I remember correctly.

The lovely Carlton will hardly sleep a wink tonight with excitement at the result today.

Yea, I thought so. I remember being annoyed at the time that ES didn't have it, especially as it was one of the final tune up events for the tour. Skys attempt to get cycling onto their pay-per-view looks to have been unsuccessful but I wonder whatthe reason is this year for the lack of ES live coverage?

Likewise. Working from home has its advantages.
I have http://live.cyclingnews.com/ open as well, no mention so far of Izaguirre riding solo into yellow.

Didnt realise how much time teejay lost yesterday...2 mins! The surprise of him attacking the previous day seems to have taken its toll

I was surprised as well that Geraint Thomas lost a minute to Kelderman, Talansky, and Barguil.

Great to see Talansky showing form and has carried it from California. Should hopefully progress to a big ride in the Tour now, he's been banging in and around the Top 10 the past few years.

Thomas will again turn into superman when he's leading Froome up the climbs. They always seem to perform at their best when Froome is racing.

In terms of the tour, I still can't see Talansky challenging any of the top tier guys, i.e. Froome, Contador, Nibali, Quintana, and Aru.

If he makes it into the top-10 that would be a fantastic result for him since he will be battling for those positions with the likes of Pozzovivo, Porte, Van Garderen, Dan Martin, Valverde, Purito, Gesink, Kelderman.... holy sh*t that's some line-up when you start listing out the names! :D

Good result for TJ today, Geraint Thomas hasn't looked good in this TdS, nowhere near the form he had last year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,660 ✭✭✭✭retalivity

And at the route de sud...
Quintana wins the tt ahead of chavanel and erviti, after being in a 150k break yesterday. Ominous.

Some great rides by the GC men in the TT today, what is tomorrow's stage like? many bonifications, it will all go down to the wire.

Tomorrow's stage is 117km with 2 HC climbs, the second one summits after 100km. Two bonus sprints are in the valley between the climbs. With such a short stage it should be fast and furious, unlikely that a break will be let go with so much to play for at the top of the GC.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58 ✭✭Hager

Today's stage has been shortened to 57km due to bad weather. It will still feature one HC climb with a 17km descent from there to the finish. I can't really see the GC changing with such a short test.

Is it just my imagination or does the commentator (not the Scottish fella) sound remarkably like Pat Kenny.

The descent looks really treacherous. Weather is horrible
