Thermostatic Radiator Valves - on all radiators?

Is it best to have thermostatic radiator valves on all radiators in a house, or are these only placed on radiators in certain rooms? If so, which rooms?

    Thanks!

the old theory was all rooms except bathroom to allow some flow when the others shut down and not overload the pump.

AFAIK, the advent of both the auto boiler by pass and the intelligent circ pump has done away with that.

The other point is that in many bathrooms the rads are under sized, either through space restrictions or the use of chrome towel rads so between being cover with towels and under sized, the TRV will really click in

The only rads you would not put a TRV on is in a room where there is a room stat. You would also not fit them on towel rads either.

Sorry to answer your question correctly, yes it is worthwhile to install TRV's especially in houses where the heating system is standard. With TRV's you have better control of your radiator allowing you to lower the temp in certain rooms you might not use frequently. In my previous post I mentioned room stats which are also worthwhile as you could for instance have one in a living area and one in the bedrooms. These stats could then be set at different temperatures allowing for instance your living areas be warmer than your bedrooms. Whereas before you would have to run a cable back from the stat to the motorised valve which controls each zone you can now get wireless ones. I'm not sure exactly by your post whether you are thinking of installing TRV's for temperature control or for ease of control of your rads. The latter is mainly what the TRV offers you. The room stat offers you greater temperature control.
