"Nice car, sporty looking, she must be quick?"
    "Not really, it's a 1.2"

S/R-line, M sport, etc. A triumph of style over substance.

    In my opinion.

Should all nice looking cars be fast?
Should all fast cars look fast?

Combination of "sporting" and "1.2" mentioned by OP brings me this to mind:

would a 1.6 be sporty enough?

That's all F1 have after all...

Some people buy things because they like the look of them.

Sure with the way it's going 1.2 will be considered a huge engine soon.

And that's why I don't watch F1 anymore. Overblown, weedy, reedy Priuses, overtaking by pressing a button, destroyed and chocked to death by regulation and as soon as anything like racing happens (i.e. 2 cars come within 5 meters of each other), steward's inquiry, bans, penalties, etc...
In a few year's time the cars will be remote controlled and the drivers will sit in a room with game controllers.
There was a time when an F1 car was a tiny little tin can with an engine that could be heard miles away and the winner was whoever had the biggest balls and made it first across the line.
